작가노트_
나무의 표정은 거칠고 딱지지고 무표정하다. 그러나 그 표면을 확대시켜 들여다보면 그 안에 무수한 빛깔과 모양들을 지닌 깊이가 있다는 것을 알게 된다. 그리고 그 다양한 빛깔과 모양들은 그것들 자신이 깊은 내면을 통과해 표현된 자연과 우주와 존재하는 것들의 발현체이다. 그것은 보드랍고 여린 물체가 시간을 잘 견뎌내 빚어진 응축물이기도 하다. 시간을 잘 견뎌낸다는 것은 시간을 통해 시간성을 뛰어넘는 것-영원성을 의미하는 것이기도 하다. 존재한다는 것은, 산다는 것은 시간을 견디는 것이다. 유한한 시간을 어떻게 견뎌내야 하는가는 의식 있는 존재의 삶이 성찰적일 수밖에 없는 이유이기도 하다.

The surface of the tree is rough, crusty and expressionless. However, when you magnify its surface and look into it, you can notice that there is a depth with innumerable colors and shapes. And the various colors and shapes are the manifestations of nature and the universe and what exists, expressed through its own deep interior. It is also a condensation made by a soft and delicate object that has endured time well. Enduring time well also means eternity getting over temporality through the time. To exist, to live is to endure time. How to endure a finite amount of time is another reason why the life of a conscious being becomes reflective.
나무의 뿌리, 껍질 등을 극대화하여 정교하고 세밀하게 표현해내는 왕신영 작가는 지난 수년간 나무를 주제로 한 작업을 이어오고 있습니다. <내가 나를 보다>는 작가가 오랜 시간 준비한 첫 번째 개인전으로 치열한 고민과 수정을 거듭해 완성한 30점 이상의 작품들을 만나볼 수 있는 전시입니다. 한 자리에서 인고의 시간을 견뎌낸 나무의 모습에는 작가의 삶이 자연스럽게 녹아들어 있습니다. 경이로움으로 가득한 작품들을 바라보며 잠시 자기 자신을 돌아보는 시간을 가져보는 것도 좋겠습니다.
